Your holiday with Halcyon Gambia consists of 6 full days’ birding encompassing a wide range of habitats from dry savannah to riverine forest.

PLEASE NOTE: We can tailor-make itineraries to suit (14 days also available and include Senegal).

Holidays are full board, giving you the convenience of knowing all your meals are provided. Included are all airport transfers, tour transportation in our own 4x4 vehicles and all bird excursions with our own qualified local guides. Where possible we will have one guide for every four guests.

With bird trips each day we expect to show you a great diversity of habitats and, depending on the time of year, many birds which are visitors as well as those resident in The Gambia.

Bottled water will be provided on daily excursions at no extra charge.

Itinerary 1

Day 1: After your 6 hour flight from the UK you will be met at Yundum Airport and transferred in our air conditioned vehicles to Halcyon Gambia where you will be met with cold drinks and a warm welcome. Spend the late afternoon and early evening relaxing and enjoying the variety of birds found in the landscaped gardens including Red-Billed Firefinches, Red-Cheeked Cordon Bleu, Lavender Waxbill and Beautiful and Splendid Sunbirds amongst others.

Day 2: We will be spending the morning at the Kotu Creek area where we will visit Kotu Bridge, Kotu Sewage Ponds, the Lily Ponds and the Casino Cycle Track. After lunch at a local restaurant we will head for Fajara Golf Course for the afternoon.

Day 3: Our first stop of the day will be Brufut Woods where we will spend the morning, followed by lunch at Paradise Inn. In the afternoon we will make our way to Tanji Village and Bird Reserve.

Day 4: The morning will be spent at Abuko Nature Reserve, a must for any birder! We will then make our way to Lamin Lodge where we will have lunch followed by the afternoon around Lamin and the Rice Fields.

Day 5: The morning will be spent at Pirang and the Faraba Banta Bush Track. After our packed lunch we will head to Yundum Woods for the afternoon.

Day 6: We will be spending the morning at Marakisa and after a packed lunch we will visit Cape Creek and Camaloo Corner.

Day 7: Our final day's birding sees us visit Bijilo Forest Park and Teujering in the morning. After lunch we will visit the Bund Road followed by an early evening walk for Nightjars.

Day 8: You will have the morning at leisure followed by lunch. We will then transfer you back to Yundum Airport for your return flight.

Itinerary 2

Day 4: After an early breakfast the drive to Tendaba will offer a great variety of wildlife as you travel inland. Tendaba Camp, where we will spend two nights, offers basic accommodation although each room has an en suite shower, mosquito nets and electric fan. There are no "frills", however all the wonderful birding inland makes the simpler accommodation quite bearable! We will arrive at Tendaba Camp late afternoon. After a freshen up we will take a late afternoon walk to nearby Tendaba Airfield. Dinner and overnight at Tendaba Camp.

Day 5: We will make our way to Bambatenda and cross the river to Farafenni to catch a ferry to the North Bank. From here we make our way inland to the Kaur Wetlands in search of amongst others, the Egyptian Plover. Return to Tendaba for an afternoon boat trip throught the mangroves. Dinner and overnight at Tendaba Camp.

Day 6: An early start sees us begin the return journey to Halcyon, with stops on the way including a visit to the Faraba Banta Bush Track.

Day 7: The morning will be spent at Abuko Nature Reserve, a must for any birder! We will then make our way to Lamin Lodge where we will have lunch. The afternoon will be spent at Lamin Rice Fields, Bund Road, Cape Creek and Camaloo Corner.

Day 8: You will have the morning at leisure followed by lunch. We will then transfer you back to Yundum Airport for your return flight.
