Tanji

Established in 1993, Tanji Bird Reserve is situated along the Atlantic Coast. It has a total area of 6.12 square kilometres, encompassing the Tanji River and estuary. Its varied habitat includes mangrove forest, dry woodland and coastal dune scrub woodland.

Along the seashore at the Tanji Bird Reserve (known locally as the “Karinti”) are a series of lagoons, and offshore are the Bijol Islands, an important site for breeding Green Turtles and roosting birds.

Often seen at Tanji are White-fronted Plover, Yellow-legged Gull, Royal Tern, Osprey, Oriole Warbler, Sulphur-breasted Bush Shrike, Lesser-crested Tern and Kelp Gull.
